At four-months of age, my little bundle of joy wanted a 3 a.m. nursing session for the fifth time that night. I was beyond exhausted, and the stress level in the house was astronomical. The lack of sleep permeated everything we did as a family. There had to be a better way, but the last thing I wanted to do was break that strong maternal bond by leaving her to cry herself to sleep.
We had spent hundreds of dollars on books and baby sleep products. After the emotional rollercoaster of trying the next magical baby sleep cure only to be again disappointed, my husband and I began to think we simply had an impossible baby. I remember sharing with my sister how exhausted and depressed I had become. With some wise advice, she set me on the path of investigation that you are probably now on – to find someone or something that could help our family get some rest and find a better place.
I did find the help we needed and after gently sleep training my then six-month old, we have a much better sleeper, and all of us get the rest we need. Our road had ups and downs, but I found the help to become empowered rather than hopeless. Seeing the impact it had on our family, I became passionate about helping other moms and dads by helping babies and kids sleep better.
I also realize that we are all busy. Life is full of changes that disrupt even the most well-established sleep routines. I know first-hand. We are a Foreign Service family with the U.S. Department of State and move A LOT! These and even more minor changes can affect even our best little sleepers. I would like to help you and your child establish and keep a positive sleep routine not only during the smooth times but also through these transitions. Sleep coaching isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach but the application of a set of specifically-applied approaches tailored to your specific situation and baby. It is also not a one-and-done approach, but an ongoing partnership to keep baby’s habits moving in the right direction.
In May 2016 I became a Gentle Sleep Coach and founded DreamSafe Kids to help other sleep-deprived families reclaim some of the new-baby joy that exhausted families miss (because they’re exhausted!). As a Gentle Sleep Coach I want to help you and your family learn the necessary skills to gently teach your child to sleep independently. With a little dedication you absolutely can.
With that in mind, I would LOVE to be the partner you are looking for so you and your family can DreamSafe.
Before I decided to embark on the journey of becoming a Gentle Sleep Coach, I graduated as an attorney from Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM) in 2012. In 2015 I completed a Masters in Management from Tulane University, and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM). I am also a certified Sworn Translator in Guatemala (English and Spanish languages).
